Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe, effective, and natural approach to promoting healing and preventing illness from occurring in the body. Acupuncture works by putting very thin, single use, sterile needles into certain pressure points in your body. This stimulates energy flow, which causes healing.

Meditation

This class is for beginners and teaches the benefits of meditation by offering instruction in the basic technique of samatha meditation. The periods of meditation are short and alternate with stretching or walking exercises.

Stretch & Self-Mobilization

Lucy Shaw, certified Athletic Trainer and resident Health Coach at the Harken Health Center in South Loop, leads this five week class, where each week the class will focus on a specific part of the body that commonly gets tight and sore due to daily life and stresses. Members in the class will learn basic postural skills that you can use in your daily life going forward to prevent and treat these common aches and pains. Each class will begin with a warm-up followed by a stretching sequence, self-mobilization techniques and strengthening exercises before ending with a gently cool-down stretch.

Walking Club

Fitness walking is designed to improve fitness, enhance wellness, and learn the proper techniques of aerobic walking using the large muscle groups. This class aims to increase motivation for better health, fitness, and diet. All class members will meet together at the beginning and end of each class session to warm up and stretch, and to share in the camaraderie that exists in groups like this. During the time allotted for the cardiovascular portion of the class, each individual will be expected to participate to the fullest at their own fitness level.

Yoga

Yoga incorporates breathing techniques, deep stretching, light vinyasa work, foundational standing and balancing postures into a low-impact exercise for better health. There is an emphasis on meditation and mindfulness through breath work, toning and strengthening through subtle flowing, and gentle stretching for all the therapeutic benefits of yoga. All levels welcome!
